WEEKLY HEALTH TIP #17 - THE WHOLE EGG

Posted by

For years now the egg has been seen to have a dark side...A side that people say has too much cholesterol in the yolk of the egg so it should not be eaten too regularly. However, just because the yolk contains high levels of cholesterol this does not actually mean that it raises cholesterol in the body. In fact, by consuming more the body produces less.

Cholesterol plays an important role in the body, such as helping to produce testosterone and estrogen. When we do not get enough cholesterol from our diets the liver produces some to balance everything out in the body. When we consume it from the diet, the liver reduces the amount that it produces and everything remains in balance. So when you are next eating eggs make sure to eat the whole egg as it's good for you.

Top Tip: Hard boil a bunch of eggs and keep them in your fridge so that when you want a snack you can get one instead of having something else which would be less healthy. The high protein levels in the egg will help to keep you fuller for longer.
